Craig Williams MP is encouraging Montgomeryshire residents with expertise in trade and agriculture to apply for the newly formed Trade and Agriculture Commission (TAC).
The TAC has been established as an independent expert committee comprising trade and agriculture specialists, and will have a crucial role to play in the independent scrutiny of new UK free trade agreements (FTA).
The new body will provide independent, expert advice as to whether measures in FTA treaty texts may have an impact on UK domestic statutory protections. The TAC will play a key role in scrutinising new FTA’s, and members will be appointed for their individual knowledge and expertise rather than representation of organisations.
The TAC will be made up of 12 experts, and Craig Williams is asking for specialists within Montgomeryshire to apply.
Commenting, Craig Williams MP said:
“The Trade and Agriculture Commission is an important part of the next stage of the UK delivering new free trade agreements. As has been demonstrated since the UK left the EU, the UK Government’s approach to free trade incorporates a fierce commitment to our high standards for food and farming, and ensuring effective scrutiny of new FTA’s is a crucial part of their delivery.
“We are committed to listening to farmers and supporting their needs in safeguarding the UK’s statutory protections. I would therefore encourage anyone within Montgomeryshire with expertise on trade and agriculture to come forward and make your voice heard, in what will be a crucially important contribution to delivering the UK’s ambitious trade agenda.”
