Both Mr Williams & Mr George have been given strong assurances by Shrewsbury Hospital that this is not the case, and that all patient referrals are dealt with in order of clinical priority.
Commenting, Craig Williams MP said:
“Clearly there are unprecedented pressures on the NHS and ambulance trusts, and everyone accepts that current waiting times for ambulances are plainly unacceptable, but I am reassured claims that ambulances from the West Midlands are being given priority over Welsh ambulances is categorically not the case.
“Patient admissions are made on the basis of clinical priority, and I am satisfied that clinical need for patients on both sides of the border is being met, regardless of how a patient is transported to the Hospital.
“There are clearly still discussions to be had with both Shrewsbury and the Welsh Ambulance Service going forwards, but I assured that Montgomeryshire patients are not being put at a disadvantage.”
Russell George MS said:
“Our meeting with Shrewsbury Hospital was very useful in addressing claims that Welsh ambulances are being de-prioritised over their West Midlands counterparts. We will now seek an urgent meeting with the Welsh Ambulance Service to ensure that both they and the Hospital are integrating fully.”
