Craig Williams MP has congratulated Montgomeryshire dairy farmer Morgan Tudor for winning the NFU Community Farming Hero Award for Wales.
Morgan was initially nominated for the NFU Awards by Craig as the constituency winner, before being named as the all-Wales champion at a ceremony held today in Westminster.
Today is also the NFU’s 7th annual ‘Back British Farming Day’ within Westminster, which recognises the vital role farmers across the UK play in feeding the nation. The Community Farming Heroes awards have been introduced in conjunction to celebrate the farmers who have gone above and beyond for their local communities.
Morgan took over the running of Llysun, the family farm, at the age of 17 following the tragic death of his father Richard in 2020. At that point, the farm had only recently converted from a beef and sheep farm to dairy production. Spurred on by his deep love of farming, Morgan was determined to carry on his dad’s legacy in continuing to run the business, and in 2 years the farm’s dairy herd has expanded from 350 to 550 cows.
On top of this, Morgan still manages to find the time to engage with the local community through inviting local groups for tours of the farm, writing a column for the local Papur Bro Welsh language newspaper, and being an active member of Dyffryn Banw Young Farmers’ Club.
Reinforcing his achievements, Morgan was also awarded the Silver Prize for the Dairy Farmer of Year category last month at the 2022 British Farming Awards.
Commenting, Craig Williams MP said:
“It was an honour to nominate such a deserving candidate as Morgan to be an NFU Community Farming Hero, and I am absolutely delighted he has now also won the award for Wales. Morgan is an incredible young man, and his achievements following the tragic death of his father Richard are a testament to his and the Tudor family’s resolve and determined work ethic.
“I am exceptionally proud to represent Montgomeryshire’s farmers and growers and show my recognition for their work in supporting Back British Farming Day. Our farmers not only provide high quality and climate-friendly food for the nation, but also make a huge contribution to Montgomeryshire’s economy.
“Events over the past few years have shown us just how important it is to have a resilient farming sector, producing quality food for both home and abroad while shaping the land that surrounds us. That is why I believe it is so importance to recognise the significance of British Agriculture and all it delivers to the nation.”
